Digital and advanced technologies are transforming our culture, allowing new cultural forms of expression and storytelling to flourish. But as cultural production shifts from the material to the virtual, how are libraries transforming the way they document and collect today’s culture for future audiences and researchers?
In this first Digital Salon, State Library Victoria and Frame Documentary present a conversation between international experts in digital media: creator Vincent Morisset (Canada) and curator Mia Ridge (UK), moderated by Ana Tiquia (AUS). They will discuss their work and practice, including:
How technology is shaping our culture and cultural production
Different creative processes for working with different technologies and interactive forms
How the shifts in cultural production are transforming what libraries collect and how they document it
Considerations that are needed for archiving, documenting or conserving new types of digital work
The conversation will be followed by Q&A with the audience.

About Vincent Morisset
Vincent Morisset is a director known for his artful use of technology and interactivity. He's also the founder of the studio AATOAA (pronounced à toi, meaning 'yours'). His small squad has been recasting how we experience the Internet, games, public spaces and films.
Morisset first came to prominence through his long collaboration with Arcade Fire; Neon Bible is considered the first interactive music video, and Just a Reflektor won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Interactive Program. With Icelandic band Sigur Rós, Morisset directed their groundbreaking live-experience INNI, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. In 2015, he premiered Way to Go at Sundance, won three Webbys and the People's Choice of the year at FWA. Recently, he created the pieces Vast Body, Habitat and Motto.
About Mia Ridge
Dr Mia Ridge is the British Library’s Digital Curator for Western Heritage Collections. Part of the Digital Research team, she provides advice and training on computational research, AI / machine learning and crowdsourcing. A Co-Investigator on Living with Machines (2018-23), she co-curated the Living with Machines exhibition with Leeds Museums and Galleries (2022-23).
About Ana Tiquia
Ana Tiquia is Head of Digital Strategy, Research & Insights at State Library Victoria, and a 2023 Frame Doc Lab artist. For 15 years Ana Tiquia has worked as an artist, future strategist, and cultural producer at the intersections of art, technology, design, and research. Ana is founder of cultural and strategic consultancy All Tomorrow’s Futures, and has worked in the UK and Australia with organisations including Somerset House, the Barbican, Melbourne Museum and London’s Philharmonia Orchestra to produce exhibitions, installations, and interactive projects using advanced technologies. As an artist, Ana integrates participatory art, design, and futures practice to create public interventions: works that invite audiences into dialogue with ‘the future’.
